Our Kids Foundation Halfway House program aims to enable young adults leaving state care to make a successful transition to independent living, by providing temporary accommodation and mentoring.
An individual Empowerment Plan is created for each beneficiary entering the program, focusing on all aspects of their personal development and setting out goals in accordance with their abilities and interests.
Every young person has their own mentor/assistant who accompanies and directs them. This support at such a critical time in the young person’s life enables them to build a solid foundation for a healthy and fulfilling independent life.
The support we provide is meant to be temporary, and beneficiaries in the program are expected to seek work or engage in further education as much as possible. Eventually the goal is to help them find their own accommodation, after which we provide ongoing mentoring and advice until the young person is settled and able to live independently.
The program requires a large investment in time and resources. We maintain a property just outside Mostar for the residents and employ a team of mentors and others to provide support.
It’s a significant commitment but since the project started in 2014 it has proven to be very successful and worthwhile.
